I had the pleasure of meeting Maicky Koenig, CEO of the Miami location of Prosein, a 35-year-old leading multinational company from Venezuela commercializing innovative products such as porcelain and ceramics tiles, faucets, toilets, sinks, mosaics and natural stone tiles, among others, for the construction and remodeling of spaces. Prosein began and remains a family-run business. Koenig said, “Our employees become our family. More than half of our employees in Venezuela have been with us for over seven years, which is more than the regular average of 3 years.”

In Venezuela, the group has 70 stores of two brands, Prosein and Mil Ceramica. Outside of Venezuela, Prosein has locations in Costa Rica, Colombia, Israel, and now Miami since this past September 2015. “Prosein USA is the latest venture of our international group, bringing our concept of ‘Design for Life’ to the South Florida market,” said Koenig. “We are slowly but surely getting our name out there. Ours is a very competitive market, but we are confident that our prices, service and products are great.”

Growing up, Mike would often come to Miami, but he moved two years ago to develop the Doral location. “I led the developments for the Miami location as we decided to expand to the U.S. market. For locations, besides Doral, we looked in Wynwood, Design District and Coral Gables, weighing the different options. But everything aligned so that we could purchase the building where we are located,” he said. “It belonged to one of our past suppliers. He was looking to relocate just as we were searching for potential locations. This location has the great advantage of having space for both the showroom and warehouse, and being in one of the most important streets of Doral. Also, Doral is well known as the main place in Miami to look for tiles.”Prosein logo

Opening in a new country is carefully strategized. “The first step is looking for our suppliers to see if they would be able to provide us with their products; our local suppliers welcomed us with open arms to sell in the South Florida area.”

Besides the grand opening held this past September, Prosein Miami has held corporate breakfasts for local architecture firms, developers and realtors. Koenig said, “With groups of 15 to 20 people, we give them a presentation that shows the benefits of the one-stop-shop that we have in Prosein.”

The main strength of the longevity and expansion of Prosein is their customer service. Koenig said, “We make long-lasting bonds with our clients, and treat their projects as if they are our own.”
